Council Valley Ambulance Proposes New EMS District

Rianne Horsch, Council Valley Ambulance Deputy Director
June 11, 2025

Council Valley Ambulance is proposing a significant restructuring of our local emergency medical services (EMS) operation to better serve the community, now and into the future.

As many of you may have seen, whether through local newspapers, social media via the New Meadows Fire Department, or word of mouth, Council Valley Ambulance is seeking to dissolve the current ambulance district and establish a new one in its place.

We are asking registered voters who are also property owners to support this structural change. Creating a new ambulance district would allow us to plan and prepare more effectively for the growth we’re already experiencing throughout our district.

Our agency is growing, too. Most recently, we celebrated the graduation of 12 new EMTs from our in-house program, our largest class yet! With 26 compensated volunteers now on board, we’re able to fully staff our shifts, which significantly improves our emergency response times. That might seem like a small win to some, but for us and the community we serve, it’s a major milestone. Faster response times mean we can be there quicker when people need us most.

However, growth also brings increased demand for staffing, equipment, training materials, and compensation. Like our neighboring EMS agencies, we’ve seen a steady rise in call volume, and we expect that trend to continue.

That’s why we’re asking for your support. By restructuring our district now, we’ll be better equipped to meet current needs and face future challenges head-on, so we can continue to deliver the high level of care our community deserves.

If you have any questions or would like to learn more about this proposal, we welcome you to stop by the ambulance office or give us a call. We’re happy to provide more information and talk with you about how this change will benefit our community.
