‘Thanks’ and ‘Thanks for Nothing’

June 4, 2025

On May 30, 2025, we were traveling through Council when we had a major breakdown. We managed to pull over to the side of the road in front of the Napa Auto Parts store. While there 2 very nice gentlemen actually came out and offered assistance to us.

After several minutes, we were able to limp the motor home off the roadside and into the parking lot of the Council Mini Storage. From there we called our roadside assistance company and were waiting to hear back from them with towing information. Mind you we are 40 feet long and it takes a heavy hauler rig to tow us, not something readily available.

About an hour into being there an older (I won’t call him a gentleman because he certainly was not) cranky curmudgeon rode up on a 4x4 asking how much rent we would be paying and told us to get the f&*$ out of his property and that he was calling the cops. No amount of explaining that we broke down and the motor home would not start seemed to make him understand that we couldn’t move. He just wanted us off of his parking lot, PERIOD! True to his word the County Sheriff came by. When they arrived, they knew exactly who we had been so fortunate to encounter. The Sheriff was very understanding of our plight and told us that he would speak to the owner.

The towing company finally arrived at 9:15 and towed us across the street to the Cenex Convenience store lot. We are still there while I write this letter, waiting again for the towing company to come tow us to Caldwell for repairs. Had we been able to stay parked where we were it would have only taken one tow to get us there, not two.

To the two gentlemen who offered their help, thank you! To the Sheriff officer who came out, we thank you for your service and understanding. To the cranky curmudgeon on his 4x4, all I want to know is who defecated in your corn flakes yesterday morning?
