2024 - Open Class Exhibits
Washington County kicked off its fair week on Monday, July 29th. There was much to do in 4-H & FFA projects and interviews, along with the dog, alpaca, goat, and horse show at various times. It was also Open Class Day, which allowed anyone to enter various handcrafted items to compete for a ribbon. From sewing and crocheting to gardening and artwork, everyone, young and old, is welcome to enter. Wednesday, July 31st was judging day and many waited in anticipation. The following day all were welcome to come see who won. To say we have talented people in our community is an understatement. There was a variety of talented artworks with some of the winners being Daniel Potter who won best in show for experienced artist - for his amazing western work on the Arizona landscape. Jane Nelson won superintendent pick for her beautiful wildlife artwork of a sea turtle. Our very own Kaye York won Best in Show for professional artist with her incredible work of horses grazing in a field. Christine Braun won Tropical Paradise in Hells Canyon theme. This is just to name a few of the astonishing artwork done by our adults and senior class. There were many wonderful pieces done in the youth category, with Damien Justet winning for Most Creative, Unique, One of a kind art work of the Joker. On the other side of the building was some marvelous displays of quilting, sewing and embroidery. Some of our winners are Emma Terry for winning Best in Show- Beginner for Sewing-Needlework. Kristen Clay won Best in Show - adult for sewing-needlework. Sue Potter won Best in Show- Heritage art for Sewing-Needlework. Joyce Taylor won Best in Show, Quilt - Adult. Virgina Seid won Outstanding Quilt Project for Sewing-Needlework. Nola Woods & Judy Scott also won Outstanding Quilt Project for Sewing-Needlework.
Bob Johnson won Master Craftsmanship for his breathtaking work on a Doll House. It was straight out of a little girls dream.
These are to just name a few of our winners in each of these divisions. I genuinely wish I could list and recognize every single winner from the Open Class Exhibits. Congratulations to all the winners all around - you have excellent work. Also congratulations to all who may not have a won a ribbon, your hard work and craftsmanship is still recognized. Thank you to all the volunteers who are such an incredible help. Thank you to all donors and supports of the Washington County Fair.
