The Meadows Valley School Board held their regular meeting on Tuesday, June 10 with Barbara Dixon, Chris Peterson, and Shayleen Brooks attending along with Board Clerk Carol Whitney and School Superintendent/Principal Dee Fredrickson.

This meeting included the final Budget Hearing for the 2025-2026 school year. Since there was no additional public comment or changes requested, the board passed the budget unanimously.

Fredrickson gave a short report noting building and staffing updates including elementary staff training requests for next school year. At the last staff training, elementary teachers requested the Principal look into the Science of Reading for their professional development training. This is part of the Idaho state SMART (Striving to Meet Achievement in Reading Together) Project and literacy initiative.

Around the outside of the school building, the external coverings of the fire suppression system piping have been removed so the repair company can access them immediately when their schedule opens up. The Superintendent also said the new playground equipment has been ordered.

Fredrickson delivered some staffing updates noting they have open positions for assistant principal, counselor, K-8 teacher, part time music teacher, and secondary science teacher. They have received two applications so far.

The Superintendent announced that current librarian Loretta McConnor, who had planned to retire, has agreed to stay on as media consultant working at the school one day per month. Fredrickson gave thanks that McConnor would be able to help in this way.

The board then discussed a few changes needed on the updated Terms of Employment for Certified Staff and Non-Certified Staff including salary increases recommended by the state. The Terms of Employment for Certified Staff was approved unanimously, but the board noted after discussing and tabling the Terms of Employment for Non-Certified staff that they will likely make amendments to this document after discussion with the full board.

The next School Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 8 at 7:00 p.m. in the school library.
