On Saturday, March 30th, children from all over the community gathered for the annual Easter Egg Hunt in Council, this year sponsored by the Council Chamber of Commerce. The sun was shining and there was a great turnout of families for the event! Chamber of Commerce President, Katie Church, said that one of the most amazing things about the hunt, however, was the multitude of donations they received from local businesses. “We had overwhelming support and donations from the community,” said Church, “it was just amazing! We couldn’t have put it on without that!” Church was especially surprised at how many businesses offered to donate without solicitation of any kind. “People just came in and just wanted to give,” she said. Companies such as DiSon Construction, who donated 20 brand new bikes for prizes. Four of the bikes were raffle prizes for the library scavenger hunt that had been going on all month at the Council Valley Free Library, and four bikes were given for finding prize eggs in each age category in the egg hunt. “Those little kids were over the moon getting a bike!” said Katie Church.

It definitely takes a community to put on an event like this! Chamber board member, Ryan Baldwin, was in charge of most of the organization, but she also had a host of volunteers who helped everything run seamlessly. “We had a blast! We are so excited to do this next year!” said Baldwin, who added that she really needs to get a megaphone for next time. “We really appreciate Ryan going above and beyond,” said Church. Council Mayor, Bruce Gardener, dressed up as the Easter Bunny and traveled amongst the children, spreading candy and good cheer. The Lions Club and many individual volunteers came together to hide all of the eggs, extra well for the older kids 10 and up, whom the Chamber was excited to have a separate hunt for this year.

Thank you to everyone who donated and helped put on this event! Ryan Baldwin said she would love any feedback from the community so they know where to improve for next year, but otherwise the Chamber is turning their attention to their next projects, the annual Fourth of July celebration (they are looking for someone to take over the saw contest for this year!), and directional signs for the city of Council.

Big thanks to the many individuals, groups and businesses that donated time, money and prizes to make this event a success.
