Before Monday’s regular Midvale city council meeting had begun, a gentleman traveling through town just happened to come in to see if he could park his camper down by the park. He was on his way to Colorado to get married. “Sure” was the response from the mayor. Then “you have my condolences” and the visitor went on his way.

After that uplifting event, the council was updated on the airport resurfacing project. The old asphalt is piled behind the hangers and the runway and tiedown area are now unusable. Since the project was supposed to be done by the end of July, the contractor, Idaho Materials, has asked for a pause in the project until they can find more base material to put in the tie down area. While the runway base is fine, the tie down area was never properly prepared with an adequate base layer. They are firmly committed to completing the project.

The council approved a bid from Custom Pump to replace the pump on well #2 which has gone out. After it is removed it will be rebuilt and kept for a backup.

The swim pool board applied for a park permit for the Fall Festival on October 12. It was approved. The festival will include chili cookoff, bounce houses, car show and cornhole tournament. Also planned for the evening is the raffle drawing for the Craig family fundraiser with the winner receiving a custom built cornhole board.

Another house will be coming in on School Road. The council approved a building permit and water meter for 185 School Road for Mathew Choate. He was present at the meeting and explained that he is working with Southwest Dist. Health and Idaho Power to ready his property for moving in an existing 1600 square foot house and garage from Caldwell. The move is tentatively planned for October 7.

The budget hearing was approved for August 26 at 7:00 p.m..

The next regular meeting will be Sep. 9 at 7:00 p.m..
