Airport to get Weather Station with App Access
Jake Mikek, Midvale airport manager, appeared before the regular meeting of the Midvale City Council to ask for permission and funds to install a weather station at the Lee Williams Airport. He explained that system would be accessed by an app and internet service would be provided by Starlink. The power to run the system would come from a solar collector. The cost to purchase and install the system will be about $18,000. There would be an annual charge of $800 to maintain the app. The council approved the request.
Jake also reported that the inspector found the airport to be in compliance but suggested that a white circle be painted around the windsock pole, which will be done.
There was some discussion of repairing the fence around the airport. The necessity of the fence was questioned. No action was taken on the matter.
The park water system may have to be turned on earlier than usual with the mild weather.
A patron asked how the updates of the city code were progressing. Clerk Mariah Johnson explained that city attorney Jeffrey Schroeder of Meridian was overseeing the work, which is being done by law students.
The meeting adjourned after only sixteen minutes. The next regular meeting of the council will be April 13 at 7:00 p.m..
