The schoolhouse in Bear is getting an expansion of sorts. Currently under construction is a covered picnic pavilion where guests can gather protected from the sun and weather.

This is just in time for this year’s annual community gathering on Saturday, July 18. The gathering starts at noon at the Bear Schoolhouse and lasts until the good times end. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided and guests are invited to bring a potluck dish to share, if they choose.

The 32’ x 48’ pavilion was started last year when concrete was poured. This year the corners and trusses went up. The roof went on just last week and the siding will go on next year. This new permanent pavilion replaces a cumbersome canopy system that would take up to half a day to set up.

The project is entirely funded by local donations to Bear Creek Community and has cost about $22,000. Franklin Building Supply generously gave them a half price discount on most of the building materials.

The construction of this pavilion came together due to the major construction contributions of Todd Young and Jim McGahey. As well as the assistance of many others within the community.

Raffle prizes include an iPad. Tickets for this are one for $10 or three for $20. Tickets for the other raffle for other great things starts at one for $5. Or, you can buy your wingspan’s worth of tickets from the roll for $20. This sounds like a good deal the lankier you are. There will also be silent and live auctions. All tickets can be purchased on site.

All are welcome this weekend. Our neighbors in Bear do ask that you drive slowly through the area to not kick up dust and to stay safe. If you would like to rent the schoolhouse for your function - weddings, family reunions etc - please reach out to Ben Warner.

All funds raised from the raffles and auctions goes back to the schoolhouse.
