Big Announcements in the 2nd Annual ‘Goodbye Winter, Hello Spring’ Event

by Kayrene Brown, New Meadows Correspondent
The 2nd Annual Goodbye Winter, Hello Spring event in New Meadows was held on March 9. At the Community Center, there were crafts for kids, snacks, goodies and drinks for everyone and flowers to take home. Two tours were given of the new water facilities at the park and kids could sign up for youth baseball.
Mayor Good made a big announcement: the city just received a $600,000 grant for a Preschool/Daycare which will be located in the Recycle Center. Also, the Mehen Memorial Skate Park has raised over $500,000 and will begin construction this spring. Everyone present was excited about the news!
The P&IN Railway Depot was also open during this event. Under their newly installed lighting, the Dick McLean exhibit was displayed. Dick went to school in New Meadows and his lifelike paintings have been in galleries around the world. Dick graduated from Meadows Valley School in 1953. My mother was in his class! She is in a couple of the pictures displayed at the depot.
Now that we have welcomed spring, let’s hope it comes soon!
