Boden Meyer Sworn in at Council Meeting

After reading a letter of resignation from city council member Charlie Downey, Midvale Mayor Brian Graham agreed with the former councilman that new younger residents are needed on the governing board. Boden Meyer, a candidate for a council seat at the last election, was recommended for the position and was sworn in Monday night. He proceeded to sit at his first official council meeting. He will finish the term occupied by Downey and will be required to run in the next election if he wishes to continue.
Water users were notified of the new $50 monthly rate in this past billing. The rate will take effect in January 2026.
The Canary Street project is finished and the council is pleased with the result. The project ran over by $7,000 from the initial estimate and the council approved paying the contractor for the entire bill. A $100,000 grant fund has been received to cover the cost. Next on the city’s street projects will be River Street with a grant application submitted to cover those costs in 2027. There is a bit of competition for grant monies, however, from many cities.
Quest CPA reported on the audit of city finances. Once again, Clerk Mariah Johnson was commended for her attention to deadlines and detail which made the audit go smoothly. The city general fund balance on September 30, 2025 was $250,000. The water fund was $41,116. With the need for unexpected repairs to the water system, that reserve will be available.
A “new” pickup has been given to the city by the Washington County Sheriff’s office. It is a full-size 2018 Dodge which still has the markings on it. The city will advertise its smaller 2000 Chevy S10 to be sold as surplus property. Bids will be opened at the next meeting.
A liquor license application for Slim’s Tavern for 2026 was approved contingent upon their paying the fee this week.
Mayor Brian Graham expressed appreciation for the work done by clerk Mariah Johnson and park employee Shawn McClary. The council approved a $300 bonus for each of them to be given before Christmas.
The next regular meeting will be January 12 at 7:00 p.m..
