Cambridge FFA Celebrates National FFA Week, Competes in District Leadership Development Events

The Cambridge FFA kicked off their celebration for FFA Week on February 20th. They had dress-up days throughout the week and kissed the pig competition, where kids were encouraged to bring pennies to vote on which teacher should kiss a pig. At the end of the week, the chapter held its annual Ag Olympics. They participated in several games, such as bobbing for potatoes, a relay race, a sweet corn-eating contest, and trivia for the teachers (with pie in the face as the reward). To end the week, the kids circled around to see Mr. Davis kiss the pig.
Then, on Monday, February 26th, Mrs. Smith took six members to Fruitland. There, the chapter’s teams split off to compete. The sales team worked hard and placed second with a tie. Members presenting sales presentations were Addi Barton and Haven Harley. Madison Gerlock participated in Customer Prospecting, and Hailey Kindall was in the Telephone Skills practicums, along with Devin Mendoza, who represented the chapter in Job Interviews and placed second.
On Wednesday, March 6, 2024, the Cambridge FFA Chapter hosted the District Floral Invitational. Ten chapters from across the valley participated in the event with 103 members present. Team members participated in corsage making, creating a centerpiece, plant and tool identification, problem-solving, and a written test. Team members were Haven Harley, Hunter Hastie, Hope Harrison, Addi Barton, and Cloe Russell. Hunter was 1st high individual, Haven was 3rd high and Cloe was 4th. The team placed first.
Leading into spring break, seven 8th grade and freshman members traveled to Parma to participate in the Conduct of Meetings LDE. Team members were Ridge Loveland, Bridger Miller, Dusty Miller, Jack Papineau, Emma Ford, Easton Hastie, and MacKee Nichols. In the 13-minute demonstration, members performed opening and closing ceremonies and conducted business on one main motion using proper parliamentary law, and took a written exam. The team placed 2nd.
