Cambridge FFA’s Industry Tours

The Cambridge FFA went on their yearly Industry tour trip, October 22 - 24. A total of 19 kids traveled to visit the agriculture programs at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. They had a fun time on this trip.
The first day of tours started with the members touring the Dairy facility and seeing the college’s state-of-the-art technology at work. The participants got to see how the dairy milks the college’s Holstein and Jersey cows, which is all done robotically. As well as see the robot R2D2 that sweeps up thrown food back to where the cows can reach it. After that, they went next door to the Veterinary Science building and got to meet some of the professors in that department.
Then they walked over to the equine center where they got to meet their tour guides horses as well as see the practice arenas. Their final stop that morning was further down the road to see the livestock facilities where they got to see sheep, goats, and cows; including the million-dollar goat! As well as getting to see the steers for the college’s auction.
In the afternoon the chapter walked around campus and saw the basketball and volleyball court as well as the football field. Then they piled onto the bus to explore the ASTE (Agricultural Science, Technology and Education department welding/ mechanics shop. They got to look around the shop which had various types of welders and sizes of engines that were being worked on by college students. Afterwards, they went to the aviation shop where they got a shortened explanation of how an airplane is made. They even had Cloe Russell hop into a plane and learn how to move the fins on an airplane. The final two stops of day one were the chocolate and ice cream factories where they walked through step by step, learning how they are made.
On day 2, the chapter started their day out in Twin Falls at the Falls Brand slaughter and packaging plant. They started at the end of the packaging process working their way backward all the way up until the pig was brought in for de-skinning. They got to see the process in which they make chorizos, prep cuts for shipping, and where all the unused pieces get shipped.
The Cambridge FFA chapter learned a lot about the agriculture side of Utah State University and Falls Brand over the span of two days. Thank you, Cambridge FFA Alumni for sponsoring a trip filled with excitement and learning. We can’t wait to see where we go and what we learn from here.
