Cambridge Senior Center Holds Baked Potato Fundraiser

The Cambridge-Midvale-Goodrich Senior Center was established in the 1970’s, in its current location at 40 North Superior, Cambridge, ID. Over the years, the Senior Center has served many delicious meals to the community, while being a meeting place for the local people to get together and catch-up. Janice Cawyer has been managing the Senior Center since 2003 and Ursula Fortin has been working with her since 2006. Janice said they enjoy working together and make a good team.
The community may wonder why the Senior Center would need a fundraiser to help keep it running. Janice said people are often under the assumption that the Senior Center meals are fully government funded. However, this is not the case. The overall cost of a meal is about $12. (This meal price includes the items that go into making the meals possible such as, utilities, building maintenance, wages, food, drinks and other needed items.) The Idaho Commission on Aging (ICOA) pays $4.25 per meal. To help cover the difference in the cost of the meals, the Senior Center has recently increased the price of a meal to $7.00. Still a great price for those looking to go out for a wonderful meal and some socializing.
I had a chance to visit with some of the participants. Linda Kellar, a longtime local resident, stated, “The food at the Senior Center is very good. In addition, the people always seem happy and it’s a good way to see those neighbors that you don’t see very often.”
Throughout the year, the Senior Center has other fundraisers with more great food and visiting opportunities. Their largest fundraiser is the Taco Feed, during Hells Canyon Days. In addition, they sponsor a Valentine cookie sale, the Christmas Extravaganza, and others. They also hold Bingo once a month for all in the community, including children.

The menu for the month is posted on their Facebook page or stop by the Senior Center to see the menu posted on the window. To all of those who came out to support the fundraiser, thank you. We are blessed to live in an amazing community that reaches out to contribute to great causes.
