Many in the Council area noticed smoke coming from the foothills just east of town on Sunday afternoon. The Camp Fire was lightning started from a small cell that moved through the area last Saturday evening, according to Council Fire Chief Shawn Stanford.

By Sunday afternoon the Payette National Forest had a crew working it as well as a Forest Service Helicopter based out of McCall. There was significantly less smoke by about 9:00 p.m. on Sunday evening as the helicopter was able to make many quick water drops from nearby stock ponds. By Sunday evening, Watch Duty was reporting the fire had grown to about 8.5 acres.

Crews stayed on the fire overnight Sunday and continued to fight it on Monday. At about 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Watch Duty reported that the fire was 100% contained.
