The Council Community Choir performs on Sunday, December 14 at the Council Community Church.

About 150 people packed the Council Community Church this past Sunday afternoon to hear enjoy the annual Christmas Concert put on by the Community Choir. The choir boasts about 26 members from the local area, many of whom attend other churches. The choir performed 13 musical numbers and had two solo performances, one each by Julia Lyttle and Rick House. Dave Herold narrated and Wayne Freedman directed.

The theme for this year’s concert was ‘Because of Bethlehem All is Well’ and opened with the musical number ‘Take me Back to Bethlehem.’ The Choir closed the concert with a singing of the Hallelujah Chorus. In all, the Choir sang 13 numbers as they brought attendees through the Christmas story with song.

Pastor Wayne Freedman tells me that they have been putting on this concert for the community for the past 12-13 years or so, and he has been the pastor for almost 41 years. The choir starts practicing in September so that they can get all the parts nailed down before the concert. He says that starting early to practice “helps me be focused on Christmas and Christ’s coming for longer periods of time.”

Wayne put together the program choosing the music and writing the narration. He wanted to get the audience focused on the story of Christmas in the Bible from God’s perspective. He said that “no matter what we face, all is well” because of the events that occurred in Bethlehem so long ago.

Wayne also tells me that new singers are always welcome at any experience level. They are happy to help get new singers comfortable and to determine which vocal section they fit best in. If you would like to sing and be a part of this Choir reach out to the Council Community Church. “It’s fun to be a part of something where a lot of individuals become one with message and music,” Wayne said.

If you missed it this year you can mark your calendar now for the second Sunday in December. That is when they generally perform each year.
