The Payette open was a great smaller race for our team. It was close to home for friends and family to watch, easier on our athletes to be at school for almost the entire day and get home at a reasonable hour, and it was the type of course that closely resembles the terrain we use for training giving us a solid leg up. It was another challenging course with rolling hills and various running surfaces and dust that tends to affect the runners ability to breath. But our runners rose to the occasion.

There were 9 schools present, 6 with at least 5 man teams. (Council, Four Rivers, Gem State Academy, Idaho City, Melba, New Plymouth, Payette, Vale, and Vision Charter) Unfortunately we had an illness so we didn’t have a qualified boys team to enter. Had we been at full strength it is very likely we would have placed 2nd overall. In addition we had 2 season bests and 2 Personal bests. Including an incredible race by our newest runner Lane Erickson. All of our runners finished in the top 50% in their respective races. We can’t wait to see what we can do on a flatter fast course like Winston Tilzey in Nampa (10/16) or Districts (10/23)!

Ladies

20 total runners

Izzy Theurer — 27:01.15 — 3rd — this is Izzy’s second top 5 finish this season!

Yasmin Leon — 32:29.05 — Season Best! This is the second season best for Yasmin in a row.

Gentlemen

50 total runners

Team score — didn’t have a team, with Greer it is very likely we would have placed 2nd overall.

Andrew Mendenhall — 19:46.39 — 6th— Season Best this is Andrew’s fastest race since 2022!

David Dillon — 21:18.70 — 14th — another solid race for David our most consistent runner

Micah Dillon — 21:48.80 — 16th — Brand new Personal Record!

Lane Erickson — 23:40.2 — 27th — This is an incredible Personal Record. Any time someone takes more than 5-6% off of their last best it is amazing…Lane took off 12% Also the faster one gets the more difficult and Lane checked both of those boxes yesterday.

Greer Green — DNR (illness)
