Council made a rare trip to Crane, Oregon (near Burns) to take on the Crane Union Mustangs in a non-conference football game. Crane was in last year’s Oregon state football championship, so Council anticipated a good matchup…and after the first possession, it appeared they might have one. The Mustangs scored a touchdown and quickly seized a 6-0 lead. However, that was the end of the excitement for the Mustangs, as Council would go on to score the next 56 points of the game in what turned out to be a rout.

Owen Hatfield was a beast on both sides of the ball. Although he only accounted for nine direct touches, each one was significant. He had five rushes for 257 yards (51.4 avg) and four touchdowns. He also was 4/4 passing for 89 yards, and those four passes were for two touchdowns and two conversions. On defense, he had a team-high 8 total tackles, and also had an additional 3.5 tackles for loss.

Council’s dynamic senior WR/DB duo of Garrison Zielinski and Bryson Evans also had tremendous days. Each had 40-yard touchdown catches; each had an interception; and each provided great defense. Evans had several tackles at safety and Zielinski had two passes defended, including a bone-jarring hit to separate a receiver from the ball. Sophomore Jim Tucker also had a solid day on each side of the ball, with 147 yards rushing and six total tackles.

The war in the trenches was all Council. Remington Crowell was a force on the line, having 4.5 tackles, a tackle for loss, a pair of QB pressures and a blocked punt.

With the game out of reach, the Lumberjacks were able to get everyone in the game. Several underclassmen made quality contributions.

This Friday night is Homecoming. There will be an old-school tailgate party starting at 5:30 p.m. with gametime at 7:00 p.m. sharp.
