Council Dismantles Salmon River

In a big conference game featuring two playoff-bound teams, the Lumberjacks used a balanced attack to overwhelm the Savages 64-14.

Owen Hatfield ripped off a 56-yard touchdown run on the second play from scrimmage and added another 2-yard dive shortly after to set the tone.

Council had three rushers top 100 yards. In addition to Hatfield’s 142 yards, Jim Tucker had 140 yards including a 55-yard score, and Bryson Evans had 109 yards (2 TD). Sophomore Brody Davis also added a 53-yard score. In all, Council had 454 yards on the ground. Evans also had a good day receiving, with 29 and 27-yard TD scores. Garrison Zielinski added a 28-yard TD catch and a pair of conversions.

Defensively, Council’s pass rush proved formidable. Remington Crowell and Wyatt Tharp put pressure on all night. Crowell had a sack, 1.5 tackles for loss, five quarterback pressures, and two QB hits. Tharp had two sacks, two tackles for loss, and two QB pressures. Owen Hatfield led all tacklers with 12.5, followed by Carson Roberts (7), Ayden Heinemeyer (5), and Garrison Zielinski (4.5).

This Friday will be one of the biggest games to happen on Council’s home field in a very long time. The #2-ranked Tri Valley Titans come to town to face #1 Council with a lot at stake. This game will determine the District Championship (Council is going for their fourth consecutive crown) and the top overall seed heading into the state playoffs. Regardless of the outcome, there is a decent likelihood of these two teams facing off again later in the playoffs.
