Council District Ranger Jeff Jones retired this week after working 36 years for the forest service. He has been the Council District Ranger on the Payette Forest since 2021.
He said that his job has been to manage half a million acres of the Payette Forest from Weiser to Council.
He and his wife plan to stay in the Council area.
According to the Payette Supervisor’s Office in McCall, a search has started for a temporary replacement. There is currently a hiring freeze, so that is why the person hired to replace Jones will be a temporary worker, only allowed to work for 120 days.
Jones said he applied for retirement last December.
