Council Girls Win Long Pin Tournament, Advance to State

The Council High Gymnasium was incredibly loud last Thursday night when two local teams played for the Long Pin District Tournament Championship. A standing room only crowd cheered on their players as Tri-Valley and Council played an exciting game.

Council beat the Tri-Valley Titans 61-41 for their third consecutive Long Pin Championship.

Senior Rhianna Iveson led the Lumberjacks with 31 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Junior Ava Eppich contributed 11 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. Senior Hope Zollman had 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Freshman Kassidy Iveson scored 7 points and had 3 assists. Senior Cora Bingham had 5 assists on the game.

Junior Emma McKee-Barton led the Tri-Valley Titans with 18 points. Senior Mckayla Hart had 8 points and 9 rebounds. Junior Stella Warren had 6 points.

The state tournament starts for the Council girls on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. when they play Salmon River at Nampa High School. The Tri-Valley Girls lost to Salmon River in the District second place game and did not advance to state. See idhsaa.org/basketball for the official state tournament brackets.

The Council Girls leave for state on the 15th at 1PM with a parade and police escort through Council.

The Boys Long Pin District Tournament starts on February 13th at 6:00 p.m. Council and Tri-Valley will play at 6:00 p.m. at the Council High School.
