The bench Cole Becker made.

Cole Becker

Hello my name is Cole Becker and I’m a senior from Council Junior/Senior High School.

On August 10th, 2024, I started working on building a bench using a Ford tailgate. I initially thought of this idea in the Summer of 2022, and was excited to start planning. I would consider this to be a passion project as I have a passion for vehicles and mechanics. Developing, planning, and implementing this project took a lot of research and time. In order to find the tailgate used in my project I had to reach out to family and friends. I eventually located one through the papa of my friend Alivia. I used a variety of tools to create this bench which include: compound miter saw, barrel router, mini skill saw, a jigsaw, chop saw, and a variety of drills. I learned a lot of skills associated with carpentry and how to plan and design. The design was difficult to develop, it took my mentor and I one day to land on a design. Many students choose hands-on work over the computer, learning carpentry is beneficial.

Alyvia Blodgett

My name is Alyvia Blodgett, and at the end of our Junior year we started talking about our Senior Projects that were approaching. For my Senior Project I decided I wanted to desensitize my horse Adohi. I decided to do this project because it will make her a safer horse, for me and for others, no matter what is thrown at her. This will also help our bond become stronger, which is important because if we don’t have a bond then the desensitization process will not work. Also if we didn’t have a bond, it would make her be a lot more pushy, and try to run me over, or drag me. I would like to thank my mentor Corrina Cheatham, my Papaw, Mamaw, And Aunt Boos, for making this project possible.

Ava Eppich

Hi my name is Ava Eppich and this summer for my Senior Project, I learned the art of portrait photography under the guidance of my mentor, Patty Guilford. Patty taught me how to use the professional strobe lighting sets, how to pose my subjects, how to adjust my lighting indoors and outdoors, and finally how to edit my photos after taking them in Adobe Lightroom. I scheduled several different photo shoots to help perfect this skill with people of all ages. After several hours of practice, my hard work paid off. I can now say I have a skill that I will be able to carry with me for the rest of my life and hopefully someday open my own portrait photography studio.

Ian Grossen

Hello, my name is Ian Grossen, and for my Senior Project I decided that I would forge a knife. My project had a lot of setbacks and problems, the most important one being the scheduling conflicts between me and my mentor. However, I have figured out a way to overcome the problems, and have made significant progress. My Senior Project will teach me some of the many different techniques you can practice when forging a blade, and even different tools. My end goal for my Senior Project is to make a Patch Knife with my mentor, and have a functional blade to present to the judges. With the knowledge I will learn from my Senior Project, I can carry on this spectacular hobby of bladesmithing, and even progress into making it a career.

For my Senior Project, I coded a website. My website gives the measurements to build a set of stairs. You can input stair height, length, and width, and it gives you the measurements necessary to build your set of stairs. The URL is http://seniorproject.byethost31.com, and it works on both computer and phone. The hardest parts of my project were learning a new programming language and deciding how to style my website. From this experience, I learned the basics of web design, which will help me get a job in computer science. I also learned that building websites is hard, and most websites take experienced developers hundreds of hours to complete. I’m proud of what I was able to accomplish in my fairly limited time frame (I spent just shy of 50 hours on my website).

Helping people has always been a passion of mine, so when I was given the opportunity to choose my own project I knew that’s what I wanted to do. For the past few months, I have been working at Salubria Center with the staff and residents, and I have also been taking online classes through Idaho Health and Welfare. I have learned a lot about the jobs at Salubria and about the residents themselves. So far, I’ve learned how to pass medications, how to set up a shower for a resident, how important it is to keep records, and that little things, like tea and cookies, can make a difference. I would like to thank Barbara Curtis-Lewis, the administrator, for giving me the opportunity to work with her wonderful staff and residents. - Trynidi Powers, Senior at Council Idaho.

Lexi Sheneberger

In a creative fusion of art and community service, Lexi Sheneberger, a senior student at Council High School, has completed a unique Senior Project by painting a local book drop box. This visually striking piece aims to celebrate the love of reading while also making an important community feature more engaging!

Izzy Theurer

Hi my name is Izzy Theurer and my Senior Project is about working with preschool students to help with learning. I chose this project because I love helping people and I also want to become a preschool teacher. This took planning and scheduling around specific times. I learned how to work with different students and each student learns in different ways. I learned how to plan, schedule lessons, and teach the students by working with them in class. I also read a book to the students about each letter of the alphabet. This project helps me understand how to become a teacher, and what kind of skills preschool teachers need. Through this project I got a teacher’s assistant certification. I would like to thank my mentor, Emilee McLinn, for helping and mentoring me for this project.

During the summer of 2024 I worked to get my FAA UAS Drone Pilot’s License. There were many steps to my project including buying a drone and learning the rules and regulations to flying the drone. Some tough obstacles I had to overcome were learning how to fly the drone, this included a few crashes, and learning how to create a video from small clips I took with my drone. This project took me most of the summer and will have a grave impact on my future. This will help my future because I can advertise my qualifications and hope to get small jobs for people who need a certified UAS Drone Pilot.

Oscar Warner

Oscar Warner

Hi, my name is Oscar Warner. I am currently a senior here at Council High School, and for my Senior Project I am building a memorial wall out by the Legion Hall. The wall is going to range from conflicts starting from WW1 clear up to the current conflicts in the Middle East. For my Senior Project I am focusing on WW2 due to time and the availability of the names. This overall project is still a work in progress due to the sheer size of every war and to make sure that I get every name possible to honor them. For this project, one of the biggest obstacles is the formatting of the names, to get them as big as possible while still trying to fit as many as possible on each sheet of metal. Another obstacle is the gathering of names; I have found that so far there are about 438 names for WW2 alone. My hope for this wall is to honor those who have served in every conflict to help keep our country safe.
