Council Library Holds Water Bash

Summer 2025 at the Council Valley Free Library has been eventful, full of storytimes, upgrades, summer reading, and special events. Story Hour at the library takes place on Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m. This summer, they have been “super well attended” according to Librarian Milise Blanton. Story Hour often involves an activity as well. One exciting activity the local children participated in during Story Hour on July 24th was a collaborative painting project. An outline of a mural was divided into small canvas sections for the youth to pick out and paint. The result was a stunning colorful and creative mural that is now on display in the children’s section at the Council Valley Free Library.
On Saturday August 2nd, the Library hosted a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Day event that featured 3-D Printers, CNC Routers, Drones, Laser Engravers, and robotic cars. Many participants also received a free Arduino Programming Kit. Children were able to try out flying the drone, received a programming lesson, and 3D printed their names!
On Saturday, August 9th the Friends of the Library hosted an End of Summer Water Bash. Usually the Friends of the Library hosts a water play area as a fundraiser during the Fourth of July events, however, this year that was not very successful due to the unusual rain on the 4th, so the Friends of the Library decided to dig out the water slides and other equipment for an end of the summer fundraiser party. The Friends of the Library’s annual Rummage Sale is also coming up on Labor Day weekend. Donations are currently being accepted at the horse trailer parked at the Library from 8:30-7:00 each day. The Rummage Sale will take place at the Adams County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall.
Also going on right now at the library is the annual School Supply Giveaway. Parents and students can come to the library anytime during regular hours until August 26th to find supplies. The supplies are free and available to any and all students!
On August 7th the library hosted an End of Summer Reading Party after Story Hour with games, snacks, and prizes. The theme for the Summer Reading Program this year was ‘Color our World,’ and there were so many colorful events and books this summer at the library! Participants have until August 30th to keep turning in their reading logs for prizes for Summer Reading, and the Winter Reading Program will start in September. Also coming back in September will be the special themed Saturday Storytimes. So stay tuned to the Library and all the exciting stories it holds as well as those still waiting to be told!
