At Monday’s regular Midvale City council meeting, clerk Mariah Johnson reminded everyone that declarations of candidacy must be returned by August 29. There are two seats up for election.
The paving project is finally done at the airport. The only thing remaining is to install the tie downs in the parking area. As soon as the paperwork is done within a few weeks, the airport will be open for business.
A leak caused by an improvement project at the park playground has been fixed.
The council approved paying for a September training event for the clerk. She has her own apartment in Boise so takes care of her own housing during the event.
The preliminary budget was examined, approved, and the date for the Budget Hearing was set for August 25.
The remaining time at the meeting was spent discussing the water problems and hoping for solutions that do not cost millions of dollars. The engineers have not returned with figures which will be used for the public meeting planned to present the issue to Midvale residents.
Waiting for future grants to pay for the project is no guarantee. Cleaning the lines was suggested but could result in liability issues with homeowners. When asked how the fire department fills its tanker, Mayor Graham said they use city water unless they can refill out in the field from a farmer’s wheel lines, which is much faster. At present, there is no water storage in the city so the only water available to fight fire is what is in the tanker.
The next regular meeting of the council will be September 8 at 7:00 p.m..
