Discussion of the Wastewater Facility Plan Improvements
On February 12, 2024, a public hearing was held prior to the Cambridge City Council’s regular monthly meeting. The hearing was presented by HECO engineers, George Murgel and Robert Almanza to discuss the wastewater facility plan and alternatives under consideration to bring the system up to compliance. Both described the current city’s wastewater system and its limitations and recommended improvements with potential costs of the project. The document detailed potential wastewater improvements that may be required to meet regulatory requirements and future community growth. A discussion followed later in the meeting by the Mayor and City Council members and it was decided to table a vote until next month’s meeting to allow more time for consideration of the plan.
Brandi Lincoln from the Cambridge Commercial Club requested a few street closures for the Hells Canyon Jam event on the weekend of June 1, 2024. She also requested a waiver of city code ordinances for alcohol sales and open containers and the city’s noise ordinance for that weekend. In addition she requested the city split the cost of porta potties for the event. All were passed unanimously by the City Council and Mayor Loveland.
Thel Pearson, museum volunteer, requested approval of a bid to replace the museum roof and explained grants and funding for the project. More information was needed, so no action was taken and discussion was postponed until next month’s meeting.
Corrections from last month’s City Council meeting: Delray Platt was sworn in for a four year term on the City Council per recent election and Levi Harrison was appointed by the Mayor for a two year term as no one applied for the position. Also a clarification of the sidewalks planned for the city of Cambridge. They are located on Superior Street not Commercial Street. The proposed plan is for reconstruction and paving for Commercial Street.
