The Council School Board met for there regular meeting on February 20th at the Council High School. All board members were present along with Mindy Ivey, Mike Howard and Pat Griffin. Several other teachers, staff members and members of the public were present.

Mike Howard, District Superintendent, presented his Administrative Report. He is working on securing more grants for school improvement and security.

The blacktop at the elementary school has seen better days. Mr. Howard wants to improve the pavement even if it is in stages over time. It was mentioned that some county roads will be repaved this summer and that it might be possible to get some pavement donated from these contractors. Apparently, this has happened in the past and contractors have been able to donate some material. It was moved to table this discussion until some prep work is done,

The bus dropoff and pickup process will be moved from the back dirt lot to the front in the near future. School staff will communicate with parents when the change will be taking place. Additionally, certain bus stops will be moved out to Council-Cuprum road as there are not enough students to pick up per district policy. This move will also save wear and tear on the bus as they won’t have to drive down a dirt road. This change will be communicated directly to those families affected by district staff.

The district is shopping for a tractor. It was moved to table for a month so they could get a better look at the budget before committing funds to this expense.

The District will be seeking to renew the supplemental levy that voters have approved in recent years. They will be moving to increase the levy to $130,000 a year for two years totaling $260,000. Seeking this levy was approved by board members in a unanimous voice vote. This levy was approved by voters in 2022 but for $85,000 per year for two years.

Mr. Pat Griffin gave the Elementary School report. They will be having a ski day st Brundage on February 27 & 28. ISAT testing will happen in the spring. During a fire drill last week all students and staff were able to evacuate the building in under 2 minutes.

The District has opened teacher negotiations for the year. Board member Shawn Stanford will head that effort.

After an executive session it was motioned and approved to hire JC Tucker as the head football coach for next year.
