The regular monthly meeting of the Cambridge City Council was held on December 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the City Hall Chambers on South Superior Street. All action items on the agenda received unanimous votes of approval, beginning with the Consent Agenda, which included the approval of the current agenda, previous meeting minutes and payment of bills. The meeting concluded with a vote to adjourn. In between, five action items were voted upon by city council members with Mayor Mark Loveland officiating. Highlights of these agenda items are provided here.

After the Consent Agenda was approved, the second action item on the agenda was the award bid for Cambridge’s First Street improvements. The bids came in less than expected and provided the city with many affordable options, according to City Clerk Sandra McKee. The bid received by Durham Gravel Works out of Payette was unanimously voted upon as the winning bid.

The next action item was the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) application commitment letter and support letter. A motion was made for the city to sign the support letter and match commitment letter, and it was unanimously approved. This project provides matching funds to Cambridge for projects like sidewalks, bike lanes, and trails. The federally funded TAP program is managed by the Local Highway Technical Assistance Council (LHTAC) and the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD).

Next on the agenda was the approval of alcoholic beverage permits for 2026. Individual businesses including the Office Bar, Gateway Pizza, Lee’s Chinese Kitchen, Blake’s Sinclair, Loveland’s General Store, America’s Rafting Company, and The Saddle Rack Bar and Grill had their alcoholic beverage permits approved by the council.

Following this vote was a vote for a back-up operator contract for city water and wastewater. Currently Idaho Rural Water is the back-up provider for water and wastewater. The city council was considering area resident and certified contractor Kory Allred to provide assistance if there were a need for a back-up provider in case of emergency. This is a legal requirement, although the city has not needed to utilize a back-up operator for many years. The council approved that the contract be awarded to Kory Allred.

Following this was an action item for “Procedure for Councilmember Packets and New City E-Mails for Councilmembers.” Official city emails will be replacing personal emails for the mayor and city council members. The council was reminded that all emails are public records and having city business on an official city email eases the process if there was a public records request. This vote was unanimously approved.

The next Cambridge City Council meeting will be held on January 12 at 7:00 p.m. As a reminder to the community, if you are unable to attend in person, audio recordings of City Council meetings are available on the City of Cambridge website. City Hall is accessible for people with disabilities. Any person needing special accommodation to participate in the meeting should contact City Clerk Sandra McKee at (208) 257-3318 or (208) 550-0591 at least 24 hours prior to the meeting.
