At the Monday evening regular meeting of the Midvale School Board, trustees heard from treasurer Kyla Dickerson who suggested the board move some funds from the general fund into the plant facilities fund to be better prepared for future projects. The board approved moving funds above the $1.4 million threshold into the plant facilities fund. The district currently has $1.7 million. The plant facilities fund currently has $60,000.

One project just completed was the roof on the old school. The board approved the payment of $111,600 to Middle Valley Construction for the work.

New superintendent Matt Jones also mentioned another project that will be completed this week. He hired a man to finish the livestock pens near the new ag barn so they will be ready when school starts next month.

The new paving between the two schools and behind the old high school is done. Unfortunately, the planned runoff from rain is pooling at the bottom of the grade south of the shop building next to the back lawn. Jones will be looking into options to provide a clear path for run off from the pavement. One option might be to run a drain tile over to the city storm drain which flows into the river. The problem must be solved soon.

Approved was the Parent and Family engagement Policy. It’s purpose is to “increase each parent’s capacity to help their children be successful in school.” Also approved was the student handbook, the state special ed policy and procedures, and the legal services to be provided by Idaho School Board Association.

There is a part-time custodial position open for someone willing to work after school hours.

Superintendent Jones has seen a need to have all security systems, keypads and cameras, combined into one program. He will be shopping around for a company to do that. Also, the fire alarms are on a separate program but could be combined with the rest. The school’s security cameras are currently on a seven day loop, but a new program could provide a thirty day loop.

The next regular meeting of the board will be August 25 at 7:00 p.m..
