On Saturday, August 3rd, 2024, Washington County wrapped up fair week with a bang. It started with a parade down the main street of Cambridge leading into the Fair Grounds. This year, Carol Turnbull was the Grand Marshal and arrived in style via a white convertible being paraded around the arena, while we all heard about her amazing accomplishments throughout her life. Carol has achieved great academic merits, she was valedictorian of her class in ‘46, then went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude with a double major in English. Carol has been a long-standing community member and a great supporter in the ranching & 4-H community. Her pies are highly coveted amongst community fundraisers and church potlucks. The Cambridge Rodeo Board made a wonderful choice by choosing Carol Turnbull for Grand Marshal this year.

The first event of the night was Mutton Bustin’, which included an incredible bunch of young cowboys and cowgirls. They were full of bravery and tenacity all holding on the best they could. Friday night buckle winner was Athleen Hickey, 6yr from Weiser. Saturday night buckle winner was Cooper Chandler, 7yr from Weiser.

At this point in the evening, the house was packed to the brim and overflowing. The Treasure Valley Leather Slappers were there to help carry the flags of all of the Cambridge Rodeo Association’s excellent supporters. None of this would be possible without their support. A big thank you to Commercial Tire, Weiser River Cattle Association, Farmers Supply Co-op, Ontario Auto Ranch, Stein Beverages, Fay Ranches, Weiser Vet Clinic, Braun Jensen, Weiser Memorial Hospital, Gladhart LLC, Incahoots, CTC, Frontier Motel, Les Schwab Tires, Triple R Rental, MTE, Cambridge Lumber, D & B Supply and Farm Bureau.

The Treasure Valley Leather Slappers also carried the American flag for the anthem and did a wonderful drill routine.

It was a remarkable night of performance and impressive grit from everyone. For the first time ever, I witnessed a few women participating in steer riding. Here is the list of winners from Saturday night events.
