Grand Re-opening of Windy Acres Design Shop

On Wednesday, June 26th over two dozen people came out to support the grand re-opening of Windy Acres Design Shop & Family Farm. They were once located at 20 East Central Blvd, next to Li’s Kitchen, and now have moved on to the beloved shop space that was once the Kaye York Gallery, located at 65 North Superior Street. An adored shop in the heart of Cambridge that Kaye York Opened in 1994. It place where she could display her artwork as it was flying off the shelves, added a frame shop and classroom in the back. Kaye had 170 consignors at one time, it became a place where local artists and craftsmen could display and sell their work. Kaye eventually added Dinahs Fabrics in 2011, which became a hub for the community of local quilters. After 33 years of business, Kaye York decided she was ready to retire, wanting more time for her art and travel. While it was not an easy decision for Kaye to make, she sold her shop to Marie and Scott Midgley.
As we say goodbye to one ending we can say hello to a new beginning. A family business that once started in a Tuff Shed over 30 years ago has now grown into a new beloved staple in Cambridge. Marie and Scott plan on keeping Kaye & her art on consignment and Kaye will be renting the back room for her art studio and workshop. You will still be able to go in and purchase her artwork and greeting cards. The Hansel and Gretel House of Candy will still be consigned there as well, along with some new items like handmade pottery, glasswork, and handmade jewelry from local artists. Keeping up with the legacy that Kaye had established for local artists. Don’t think that is all they do though, this unique shop has been busier than ever. A good problem to have that they are grateful for.
They are busy making signs, banners, custom apparel, and beautiful embroidery designs. You may even recognize some of the new signs they have done. Check out Gateway Pizza, BnB Farms, and Fruitland Chiropractic to name just a few. It doesn’t stop there though, they also make banners for the Commercial Club, Hells Canyon Jam, rodeo, fair sponsorships, and Tri-Valley Athletics. They do apparel branding for big businesses like Hercules Metal Corp. or even personal custom items. Don’t be fooled like I was thinking they only do things for big business, you can have stockings embroidered for Christmas, t-shirts, hats, blankets, and even backpacks personalized there! The possibilities are endless at Windy Acres Design Shop. The business has even got orders from across the United States! They never imagined how successful things would take off for them.
Marie will continue to teach at Cambridge Middle/High School, but she plans to be at the shop as much as she can. Coming in on lunch breaks and her days off to help with the influx of orders they have. Scott will be there full-time working the front, taking orders, and more. For right now Scott and Marie are staying very busy but they are keeping one eye on the future and thinking of new ways to expand their business one day. Go on down, take a look around, browse through the local artist items, chat with the owners about what you need, and don’t forget to give the store pet TJ the dog a snuggle before you leave. Windy Acres Design Shop & Family Farm is a welcome addition to Cambridge’s main street. An exciting new addition that will fill the void of Kaye York Gallery leaving.
