Grants Awarded to Adams County Historical Society
For many years the Adams County Historical Society (ACHS) has had a goal of improving the lighting in the lobby of the historic P&IN Railway Depot in New Meadows. This year they applied for grants from The Fosdick ($3,000) and Idaho State Historical Society ($2,500 matching CEG grant) and were awarded funds from each of the organizations. Those awards will be combined with other funds to purchase and install exhibit lighting in the depot lobby this winter.
The original 4 pendant schoolhouse style lights (which will remain) do not provide adequate light on dark days or evenings and also limited the use of the lobby under those same lighting conditions. These lights will greatly enhance the exhibits focusing on local historical events, subjects and people. Because of the ongoing efforts of the all volunteer Meadows Valley Benefit Golf Tournament aka “The Fosdick” and contributing businesses, many things are possible for Meadows Valley non-profits and residents that otherwise likely wouldn’t be funded. Over the years, the list has grown long of the items and projects the ACHS has been able to accomplish thanks to their efforts. Idaho State Historical Society preserves and promotes Idaho history. As stated by Janet Gallimore, Executive Director & State Historic Preservation Officer on the ISHS Website history.idaho.gov “...By sharing information and understanding about Idaho, we provide tangible links to the past that illuminate and give context to the present. By stewarding Idaho’s historical collections that resonate with story, we ensure that future generations have a foundation on which to build. By providing access to government records, we continue the legacy of freedoms afforded our state by its guiding documents and citizen action. Historic sites immerse visitors in compelling, authentic learning environments. Through exhibitions, public programs, and purposeful conversations, our state’s story is a beacon for civic engagement...” We owe both of these organizations a big thank you for providing funds that help so many non-profits work toward accomplishing those goals as well as educational opportunities, repairs, and services that otherwise might not be feasible in our small communities.
