With the building raised off the ground and supported by pallets and extra steel beams, about 26 people gathered for the groundbreaking ceremony of the new youth center in New Meadows. Held on Monday, September 16 at 4:30 p.m., attendees were welcomed by Mayor Good and were able to view a rendering of the future building. Joseph and Kimberly Dalrymple of Dalrymple Construction, the project contractor, helped answer questions and even gave a tour to some attendees.

The Mayor expressed appreciation for all those involved in getting the project going saying, “Thank you to Joe & Kimberly, the City Council for approving this project, everyone in the community who believed in us that this can actually happen, all the people who will donate supplies and funds…, Idaho Department of Workforce Development for the wonderful $600,000 grant, Blue Cross Foundation for money for architectural drawings and furnishings for the school, donations from other local foundations…” The Mayor noted there are many others to thank and said she hopes to get approval for a plaque wall to recognize all who have donated to this project for our community.

After the speech, Mayor Good, Meadows Valley School Superintendent and Principal Dee Fredrickson, Kimberly Dalrymple, and City Council members Jeff Parnett and Shiloh Ryker lined up and raised their shovels to break ground. Following cheers and applause, attendees were welcomed to enjoy cookies and hot chocolate. Thank you to Julia Olson for her help with the refreshments.

The new renderings are still available for viewing on site outside of the construction area. A name for the new youth center is yet to be decided, but will be discussed at future City Council meetings. Look for a follow up article about generous funding from a broad range of sources that is helping to make this project successful.
