Introduction to Western Skies Wellness

Western Skies Wellness & Primary Care is the name of a new health clinic in Council. Located downtown at 110 Illinois Ave, Western Skies is run by Nurse Practitioner, Ross Aylett, and his wife Pauline Aylett. The clinic opened in Council last year on July 4th and offers both traditional western primary care as well as functional medicine therapies that are up and coming in the natural health movement. The Aylett’s have been growing the business during their transition to the Council community.
Ross Aylett was a contractor for 25 years but enjoyed medicine. His wife, Pauline, wanted to get him out of the business, and encouraged him to go back to school, so at 48 years old he started nursing school. He loved medicine, and was a hospital floor nurse for ten years, worked as a traveling nurse in progressive care units during Covid, and continued his education to become a nurse practitioner. All of his education was in western medicine, but when he opened his own clinic in La Grande, Oregon, his business partner at the time introduced him to a more functional medicine approach, which he took to. This turned out to be a blessing for the business. “During Covid I think people lost a lot of faith in healthcare and in pharmaceuticals,” said Ross, but functional medicine and other health alternatives flourished.
One of the most popular alternative treatments offered at the clinic is called PEMF, or Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy. The Aylett’s first discovered PEMF through their daughter, who was introduced to it as a therapy for horses. They thought it would be a good business for their daughter to pursue and bought the first machine for her to use on horses, but they quickly started to learn about the benefits for people as well. When Ross had a particularly bad run with Covid in 2021, his daughter mentioned the PEMF might be helpful to his lungs, and he decided to try it on himself, with exceptional results he said.
Pauline Aylett is the primary PEMF Therapist and is full of stories and testimonials, both her own and those of patients, of healing and vast improvement due to the PEMF machine. There is a history of utilizing magnetic fields for health care that dates back for hundreds of years, and Pauline was utilizing some of them herself prior to being introduced to PEMF. She explained the therapy in layman’s terms, saying that the pulses hit the individual cells, which shakes them so they drop toxins out. This both has a detoxing effect and brings a larger blood supply to the targeted area. It also energizes the mitochondria, the powerhouse of the cell. “It takes a cell that’s just hanging out, it’s virtually useless, because it’s so clogged up with toxins, and it puts it back into work in your body,” said Pauline.
Pauline Aylett said that more than half of people experience vast improvements after the first treatment and that’s why she gives away the first treatment. “I’m probably shooting myself in the foot,” she laughed, saying many people feel so good after they don’t need to come back for subsequent treatments. Their machine is not FDA approved, although there are versions that are FDA approved for bone regeneration and healing, which is what PEMF is primarily known and studied for, according to Pauline. “Your body can only heal you so far,” she said, “but you put PEMF in it and get your cells cleaned up and then they can go back and heal it further.”
PEMF is only one of the tools and treatments utilized at Western Skies. The clinic also offers primary care services, and Ross can take either a western medicine approach or a functional medicine approach, depending on the desires of the patient. They are also beginning to offer other alternative therapies, such as red light therapy and I.V. Therapies, including high dose vitamin C, Myers’ Cocktail, a popular immune boosting formula, and certain cancer treatments. Ross also offers in depth hormone testing and sends off to Moses Lake Compounding Pharmacies, who compound bioidenticals. His goal is to help patients decide their healthcare and support the route they want to go.
Western Skies Medical and Primary Care is excited to serve Council and the surrounding communities The clinic has a laid back, no pressure atmosphere, so does Ross. “I’m just an old cowboy,” he said, referring to his time in rodeo. Both of the Aylett’s are excited to make this their permanent home and get involved in the community. “It’s a great, great community,” said Ross. The clinic is open five days a week, Monday through Friday 9-5.
