January 2025 in New Meadows: Get Involved
As we enter January and the new year, there are many ways to get involved in the community and do something fun or educational. In New Meadows there are activities for young and old. January cold can have us bundling up at home, but a little time out with others is a good way to add some cheer to your days.
If you are looking to learn something, check out the library or the P. & I.N. Depot. The library will offer family storytime on Wednesday, January 8 at 4:00 p.m. That same day, Book Club has been rescheduled (from the first Wednesday) and will be at 7:00 p.m. The group is open to new members.
At The Depot, a History Night is planned for Tuesday, January 14 at 7:00 p.m. Our own Dale Fisk, will be presenting on the early history of Meadows Valley, especially life in the valley in the late 1800’s.
Did you know New Meadows has a Cribbage Club? They meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at Kahili Club from 6-8:00 p.m. and aim to play six games. Beginners are welcome.
The Community Center also offers competitive opportunities by way of monthly Bingo Night. Generally this includes a potluck at 5:00 p.m. followed by Bingo at 6:00 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month.
There are local programs available to get help with energy bills and other necessary utilities as well as common needs. Western Idaho Community Action Partnership has resources to help as well as assistance for emergency or crisis situations. Information can be found at City Hall, by searching “WICAP energy assistance” online, or by calling the Payette WICAP office at (208) 642-9086. The New Meadows Food Bank days are scheduled for Saturday, January 18 and Saturday, February 15 from 10 a.m. to noon.
The Community House Thrift Store is a great place to look for affordable clothing, home goods and other miscellaneous sundries. This week jewelry is on special sale and the store is open Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday 11 a.m. 3:00 p.m..
Events for children and families also include the return of the Meadows Valley Planet Youth/YAC After School Program after school until 5:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This Thursday, January 9 is Board Game Day and Thursday, January 16 is career dress up day.
Meadows Valley School is hosting two family nights in January. The first is a Storytelling Night on January 15 from 5 - 7:00 p.m. If you have not had the opportunity to attend one of these events, it is highly recommended. Guests will learn storytelling techniques and ideas for family togetherness. Dinner and prizes will be available.
The school is also hosting their Winter Celebration of Learning on Thursday, January 23 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to see and celebrate some projects and accomplishments of students.
