Joyce to be Interim Superintendent
The biggest news of the evening came at the end of the meeting after the board’s executive session when the board accepted the resignation of Superintendent Pat Griffin. According to Board Chair Steve Ryals there is no hard end date for Griffin’s service and that he will help with the transition as long as he’s here. Griffin had previously emailed his resignation to staff on May 14.
The board then approved Brian Joyce to be the interim superintendent and approved offering the elementary principal position to Leo Fontana. Fontana is currently listed on the Buhl school district’s website as the Special Education staff.
During Mr. Griffin’s report to the board earlier in the meeting he reported that the district has a new website - still at csd13.org.
Griffin applied for a School Resource Officer grant and will know by mid-June if the district will receive it. The ISAT data just came back and he expects to be able to provide a deeper dive on that at the next meeting.
Mr. Joyce reported that the district received their accreditation score of 252. Board member Mr. Grossen asked what the biggest deficit the evaluators saw was. Joyce stated it was the need to improve school culture.
The board needed to go back and revise their calendar for next year due to a conflict with teacher contracts. That was discussed and the minor changes were approved.
Teacher contract negotiations are complete according to the board. The district plans on giving teachers their contracts before school is out and the teachers have 10 days to respond. Lack of a response from a teacher means the board can declare that position as open, according to discussion during the meeting.
The last action item was the approval for a mower with a wider deck to help reduce time spent mowing.
