Two Midvale seniors presented their final projects to the trustees of the Midvale School Board. Drag racer Kiley Whiting used her interest in cars to organize a car show at the Midvale Fall Festival. After promoting it with her fliers and by word of mouth she was pleased when 36 cars were entered. The farthest entry came from Twin Falls. She was able to do trophies thanks to a sponsor and also provided candy for the Trunk or Treat thanks to Ridley’s and Bi-mart. While she was designing posters, she also made one for a Senior Class fundraiser with several donated prizes. Kiley’s family is involved in racing and she drives a 1977 Toyota Celica at Firebird Raceway.

Lexi Gay decided to do her project on Red Ribbon Week which aims to educate students about the dangers of illegal drugs. She said, “I can educate in a small school where drugs are not a problem.” She organized four school days around themes for the students to dress as. There were two assemblies with slide shows. One show was presented to K-5 and the other one to students 6-12. Lexi made posters stating “Say No To Drugs” and had all the students commit to that by signing their names on the posters. She mentioned that she actually enjoyed her project.

A third senior, Andrew Wiebe, was present to explain to the trustees what was planned for the senior trip. The class president said there are 15 students who may possibly go. They want to drive to Coeur d’Alene and stay at an Air B&B and also visit Silverwood theme park. Chaperons and drivers will be Mrs. Ingram and Mrs. Warren. The trip will be May 29-June 1. The class currently has $5,455 saved towards the trip and is planning more fund raisers. The board approved the plans including the use of the school vans.

Superintendent Kylee Morris reported on the accreditation review so far. Documents were submitted December 2 and interviews were done with staff and students on December 16. The exit interview will be December 23. The official was impressed that everyone was consistent in their answers to his questions.

The district expenses are looking good and at five months expenses are under budget. The additional expense of heating the new animal barn and heating the additional space in the ag shop has not been too expensive.

Monday’s heavy wet snow presented challenges for all drivers, including bus and van drivers. There is still no one available to drive a second yellow bus.

The board approved Christmas bonuses for all staff members. Funds used were the November return on investments which came in at $10,000. Investments are performing better than was expected at budgeting time.

The next meeting of the board will be January 27, 2025 at 7:00 p.m..
