Local Candidates
The following individuals have declared their intent to run for elected office, according to the Adams and Washington county clerk’s offices. Incumbents are marked with an (*). Candidates are listed in alphabetical order by last name.
There were more offices up for election, but not enough candidates declared to have a competitive election for those offices. Under Idaho law, if the same number of candidates declare as there are offices, there will not be an election for that office.
City council seats are at-large and awarded based on vote totals. For example, if a city has two council seats up for election but three or more individuals have declared, the top two vote earners will fill those seats.
No candidate declared for a vacant seat on the New Meadows city council for a two year term. The New Meadows City Council can appoint someone to this seat to serve until the next election in 2027.
There are a couple of write-in candidates this year - one candidate each in the Council and New Meadows mayoral races. Write-in candidates will not have their name on the ballot - voters will have to write their names in the space provided. However, votes for other people (or fictional characters) who have not filed the correct paperwork with their county clerk’s office will not be counted. Voters should also note that the more complete they write the name of their write-in candidate, the less chance there is of your ballot being questioned as to your intent. First name only won’t count according the Adams County Clerk’s office. Best to spell out the write-in candidate’s full name if that’s who you wish to vote for.
The Record Reporter will be inviting each of the below candidates to submit a photo, Q&A responses and/or a position statement and will publish those in early October. Official sample ballots will also be printed in October.
