Lumberjack Boys Win 2A District 3 Track Title

It has been a great year for the Lumberjack boys. First, they won their fourth straight district championship in football. Now, they will add to that a 2A district track championship.
Council dominated the sprints and relays, winning the 100m (Brody Clagg), 200 meters (Greer Green), 400 meters (Greer Green), 4x200 (Rowan Green, Jim Tucker, Owen Hatfield, Greer Green), and 4x400 (Rowan Green, Owen Hatfield, Ayden Heinemeyer, Greer Green). They also took 2nd in the 4x100 (Weston Zielinski, Ayden Heinemeyer, Jim Tucker, Brody Davis).
In addition to the sprints, Council got great help in throwing, jumping, and hurdling events. Jim Tucker won the triple jump, Liam Roundtree was 2nd in the 110 hurdles, Wyatt Hatfield was 3rd in javelin, Bryson Evans and Tucker Armichardy were 4th in high jump, and Remington Crowell was 5th in shot put.
Other notable performances included Rowan Green (3rd in 400m), Brody Davis (4th in 200m), and Ayden Heinemeyer (5th in long jump).
This is the first district title for the Lumberjacks since 2015. They finished with 137 points. Liberty Charter finished a distant second with 100 points.
It should be noted that next year, 2A and 1A will split, each now having their own state championship. If it had happened this year, Council would have been a strong contender for the state banner. Next year should bode well for the Lumberjacks, who will have a very strong group returning.
The girls also had a good day at districts, placing 5th overall as a team. They picked up wins in the 200m (Jaycee Dougherty), Discus (Kassidy Iveson), and javelin (Sara Conaway). Other strong performances included Kassidy Iveson (2nd in javelin), Jaycee Dougherty (3rd in 100m), Eliza Bingham (4th in 200m), Sara Conaway (4th in shot put), and Eva Warner (5th in the 400m).
Overall, Council will send a strong contingent (14 athletes) to State this Friday and Saturday. Good luck!
