Lumberjacks Cut Down the Ramblers 70-0
Homecoming for the Lumberjacks turned out to be a runaway train against Cascade, sprinting out to a 56-0 lead early in the second quarter and coasting from there.
Touchdowns came fast and furious, and in many forms. Eight different Lumberjacks scored touchdowns in this one, including receiving (Garrison Zielinski, Wyatt Tharp, and Ayden Heinemeyer) rushing (Brody Davis, Thaine Bauer, Remington Crowell, and James Yoakum), pick sixes (2 by Garrison Zielinski), and a fumble recovery in the end zone (Bryson Evans).
Normally a run-heavy team, the Lumberjacks took the opportunity to focus on passing a bit more. Owen Hatfield completed 7 of 10 passes for 141 yards and 3 touchdowns before exiting the game around halftime, as did most of the first string.
One of the best parts of the evening was witnessing 2 regular PAT kicks, which doesn’t happen much in 8-man football. Bryson Evans was 2 for 2 in that department. James Yoakum snapped, Owen Hatfield held, and Evans booted both right through the middle.
All in all, it was a great chance for all players to get playing time. Council, now 1-0 in league play and one of the top-ranked teams in 1A, now faces Garden Valley this Friday in Garden Valley.
