Meadows Valley Public Library Holds Summer Reading Program

Green slime, purple crayons, capybaras, and oranges have all been a fun part of the summer reading program in New Meadows this year. The program runs through July 30 and is a summer activity highlight for local kids, visitors, and adults.
Welcoming 25 to 50 kids each week, librarian Audrey Crogh and her team of Kayrene Brown, Melody Brown, Stacy Loper and regular reader Marlene Clark, share stories, games, crafts, and a treat every Wednesday in June and July. At the end of each program, participants have the opportunity to turn in their book reviews in exchange for game or prize drawing tickets. Games include Spin to Win, Punch a Prize, fishing game, and a velcro ball wall among others. Prizes are different each week, and the weekly drawing includes three big prizes for lucky winners.
This year’s theme is Color Our World and so far kids have enjoyed colorful themes including Nothing Rhymes with Orange, featuring a capybara, Green is Grand, and Harold & The Purple Crayon movie day. This week’s Wednesday theme is Mellow Yellow. Upcoming themes include Seeing Red and Blue, Blue, Blue!. The final celebration, featuring water games, treats, and final prizes in the City Park, is scheduled for Wednesday, July 30. Kids must be registered for the reading program before then to attend.
The library team is also keeping track of each child’s reading log with a sticker chart. A prize will be awarded to kids who have read the most books at the end of July. Adults can also read for a prize by turning in book reviews.
Everyone is welcome to come in during regular hours for daily summer reading activities including a find the sticker challenge, guess the number of items in the jar, and turning in book reviews for prizes and drawing entries. Kids and adults are welcome to turn in book reviews once per day. Library summer hours are Monday through Friday 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m..
