Meadows Valley School Awards and Start of Summer Fun

Meadows Valley celebrated the last day of school with academic and character awards, field day activities, MV Coalition and YAC after school summer party and a special send-off for School Resource Officer Chris Carlisle.
At the start of school, elementary students gathered to celebrate academic success and continue their tradition of candy awards. Each teacher handed out certificates detailing positive attributes of their students plus candy that worked with a pun. For example, Starburst for a student with “out of this world” progress. Students from each class were also awarded for standout scores or improvement over the year in reading and math based on state testing scores.
Carlisle was presented with a basket of goodies, a hand made sign and a loud cheer as a thank you for his time working at the school. The SRO became a familiar presence in Meadows Valley as he worked weekly with students and staff. He gave lessons to students on safety, worked individually with students and families, participated in class activities from regular lessons to shooting off rockets and even did a couple hours of substitute teaching with the third grade class leading them in creating a silly story. “Officer Chris” will be missed by students and staff alike but they hope he will enjoy retirement.
Elementary participated in field day afterward with each teacher and the school PTO hosting various games. Secondary students had their own field day options including ultimate frisbee, flag football, bocce ball and crafts.
Meadows Valley Coalition and YAC After School Program hosted a summer party when school got out. They provided two bounce houses with slides and a water element. Meadows Valley Fire & EMS also attended with a fire truck, ambulance and temporary tattoos allowing kids to climb up and check out the vehicles. Members of the MV Community Center helped cook snacks for the kids throughout the school year and this event was no different with BBQ offerings and treats. Meadows Valley Coalition will offer summer programming in the City Park on Thursdays starting June 25.
