As midwinter comes upon us there’s still plenty going on around New Meadows. Here is your regular round up of what you can look forward to.

The Meadows Valley Community Center is helping us fight the winter blues with comforting food, games, and activities. They offer Monday lunch every week except the second Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Offerings include homemade soups and stews, coleslaw, rolls, sweets, and drinks. Donations are happily accepted.

The Center also offers a monthly BINGO and potluck night beginning at 5:00 p.m. The next BINGO night is Wednesday, January 14.

Monday, January 26 the MVCC is offering a “Beat the Winter Blues” game night from 6-8:00 p.m. For this event guests are welcome to bring potluck finger foods and their favorite game. The Center will have games available.

Saturday, February 14 a Valentine’s Day dinner is being planned featuring a special prime rib meal. Watch out for more details soon.

If sports are your thing, the MV High School wrestling team kicked off the year with a first place finish in her category from women’s wrestler Gracie Howard. The Mountaineers men’s and women’s teams are scheduled to compete in McCall on Wednesday, February 4. See the team schedule in the back of this paper for more meets.

Mountaineer boys and girls junior high basketball has begun and they have home games scheduled for January 28, February 3 and February 10. Come out and support your Mountaineers!

Speaking of the school, their twice annual Celebration of Learning event is coming up on Thursday, January 22. The event goes from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and features project presentations and displays from all grades. This is a key event students work toward each semester and is a great way to see what everyone has been learning.

That same evening from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., Meadows Valley Youth Advocacy Coalition (YAC) is hosting a family night at Zim’s Hot Springs.

We know there is always something to do when the library is open. Their winter hours are Monday through Friday 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Family Storytime happens the second Tuesday of each month from 4-4:45 p.m. January’s theme is ‘Under the Sea’ and February’s theme is ‘Safari Animals.’ Kids will hear a couple stories, do a craft or activity, and have a small treat.

The library is now offering a STEM focused Maker Club for kids 10-15 years old. The Club meets the first Wednesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. Check the library to sign up and for details on each month’s activity. Adult maker classes pop up throughout the year and details can be found on the library website or in person when available.

Book Club also meets the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. This month’s read is Caleb’s Crossing by Geraldine Brooks. New members are welcome. Book club features active discussion and a snack.

Get involved in the community and hear what is happening in other areas by attending meetings for the City Council, School Board, Fire Commissioners, Historical Society, Parks & Rec, and Streets & Roads Committees. Many meeting details may be found in the Bulletin Board section of this newspaper.
