Mennonite Choirs Perform

On Wednesday March 19 at 7:00 p.m. the Council Valley Mennonite Church performed their yearly Spring Chorus concert. The church was packed full of people from the local community who came to enjoy the performance.
Two choirs performed, the church’s school children’s choir and the church’s chorus choir. Both choirs sang a cappella and they practice for the Spring Chorus concert throughout the year. Pastor Jerrill Schrock started off with a short sermon and prayer, then the concert began.
The Mennonite school children performed first and delighted the audience by singing, “The Lord is My Light”, “Our Father in Heaven and “Eternal Light Shine in My Heart” directed by Tyler Yoder. Yoder is the only teacher at the Council Valley Mennonite Church’s private school. He said in an interview that the children sing at school three days a week and look forward to the Spring Chorus program all year. The youth finished off the first half of the program with a quintet singing “When I Go Home”.
For the second half of the program, the Council Valley Mennonite Church Chorus had the audience mezmerized with their beautiful harmonies sung in perfect pitch.
Clayton Schrock was the director and shared later on that being a director had been a dream of his since he was a young child. It was obvious that he throughly enjoys directing and he did an excellent job. The choir performed six songs starting with “Jesus Loves Me” and ending with “God is so Good”. Other songs performed were, “If My People/Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”, “There’s a Quiet Understanding”, “All Things New” and “If Ye Love Me”.
After the concert, there was food and fellowship. Everyone was treated to delicious food prepared by the Mennonites. It was a wonderful time of companionship, people from all different backgrounds sat at the same tables and got to know each other better. The Mennonite church Pastor Schrock said the church started doing the Spring Chorus Program to bring the local community closer together and that’s exactly what happened. It was a wonderful evening of splendid music, food and camaraderie.
