Midvale Library Partners with U of I Ext. for Educational, Fun Programs

The Midvale Community Library recently partnered with Holi Ogle with the U of I Extension Office. Holi came with iPads and Legos and instructed the kids in creating and programming a moon explorer and a speed racer. Holi even came prepared for younger siblings and had legos for them to build with.
On Tuesday, June 17th we had 14 kids come and they worked in teams to build their moon explorers. Then they were able to program them to pick up Lego pieces! On June 24th, we had 5 kids attend the Speed Racer program. The kids built a Lego race car and then after programming their cars, the kids got to race them.
Both programs were so much fun for the kids that they wanted to know when Holi was coming back, where they could buy these Legos themselves and if maybe Holi could stay a little longer. It was great to see the kids teamwork and problem solving skills at work.
By the way, the Lego kits are available for classrooms and libraries to borrow at the Weiser U of I extension office.
