MVRFD Receives Training in Orofino

The Clearwater Fire Academy hosted many fire departments from all over Idaho on the weekend of March 16. Eleven volunteers from New Meadows traveled to Orofino to take classes. Cody Day took an Essentials class. Josh Carr, Troy Black, Devon Buys and Justin Aspiazu took Short Handed Fire Tactics. Johnny Brown and LeAndra Smith attended an Incident Safety Officer class. These were all 16 hr classes.
Others took two 8 hr classes. Dollie Black took Principles of Modern Fire and Art of Reading Smoke. Shadyn Wallace attended Live Fire and Rule of Air Management. Becky Davis took Fire Apparatus and Pump Maintenance. Firefighter Dollie Black let me know how she felt about her classes: “My training equipped me with a very invaluable insight to the art of reading smoke and the knowledge to be efficient and navigate with my team when called out to a structure fire.”
With the little time they had to themselves the volunteers decided to go visit Dworshak Dam. The highest straight-axis concrete gravity dam in the western hemisphere.
