Near Record Attendance at Adams County Republican Lincoln Day Event

The Highway 95 road closure could have severely affected last Saturday’s Republican Lincoln Day fund raising event of which historically one-third of attendees are from our northern communities. Not to be deterred and thanks to the well manned Weiser River Trail shuttle and volunteers on either side of the slide the annual event approached last year’s record attendance.
Opening the evening the Bert Harpham American Legion Post 72 veterans carried in our national colors, Chris Boyd (Canyon County Prosecutor /emcee) led the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by Lynn Mendenhall singing the National Anthem accompanied by Angie Mendenhall. There were few dry eyes in the crowd. Broken Bowl Catering’s famous brisket and pulled pork dinner and our racy dessert dash continued the evening. This year the ACE Saloon joined us to provide their excellent beverage service.
Adams County Republican Central Committee’s (ACRCC) first Essay Contest themed Censorship in Media winners were presented: first place Council High School Senior Ava Eppich ($350) won with her essay, ‘A Technique Gone Wrong’. Second place ($150) went to Council High School Sophomore Elise Eppich’s essay ‘Let the Whole Truth be Told’. There were five entrants in this first contest.
This year’s legislative session saw some wins and defeats according to our State Legislators Senator Cindy Carlson, Representative Kyle Harris, and Representative Charlie Shepherd. A surprise attendee Congressman Russ Fulcher shared several issues and successes from the national perspective. Mark Mahon, President Associated Logging Contractors, gave a synopsis of a meeting he attended in Washington DC with Congressional and Administration leaders. Our keynote speaker, Brian Smith, Idaho National GOP Committeeman, called us all to remember that the United States, is based upon the covenant that this is the only country under God where the power is in the people, the covenant of the constitution is that our rights come from God, not government. He closed with, when we join together and ‘lift where we stand’ we can do much good in our communities. Each of our representatives encouraged us to contact them making the point they are here to do our work.
The lively live auction called by Jim Metzger saw some great items including, firearms, a handmade quilt and baked goods, firewood, ceracoating, and several Trump silver and copper coins donated by the Idaho State GOP go quickly.
The ACRCC is grateful for the overwhelming support of our local businesses and for the many individual donations given for the silent and live auctions; without your support, this event could not be successful.
Our annual Lincoln Event is ultimately a fund raiser. The monies raised are used to support conservative candidates, and causes. This past year the committee focused a majority of its efforts on defeating Prop 1: blanketing the county with No Prop 1 signs, placing advertisements, hosting informational town halls, and supporting and electing strong candidates who represent our Adams County values. Additionally, we organized and conducted the 2024 Republican Presidential Caucus for Adams County. ACRCC is also a participant in the Adopt a Highway Program, cleaning a stretch of Highway 95 south of town near the Council Rod and Gun club. This year’s cleanup is scheduled for Friday April 25th , come on by and join us.
The Adams County Republican Central Committee meets the 2nd Monday of each month at 5:00 p.m. in the Adams County Courthouse jury room. Come bring your enthusiasm and join our efforts to support The Constitution, conservative ideals and candidates, and local causes for the benefit of our communities. If you have a desire to be engaged, no matter your age, come join with us – all are welcome!
