New Houses Coming To Town
Two building permit applications were approved at the regular meeting of the Midvale city council Monday evening. Both applicants live on School Road. Approved were permits for Pike Langer who wants to replace his current house, and Dorothy Atkinson who will receive a permit when the permit payment is received by the city. The setback requirement is seven feet from the property line.
A request from Jesse Whitener to table his application for annexation into the city was approved for ninety days.
A park permit was approved for Cindy Erickson for a one day family reunion on June 30.
Clerk Mariah Johnson will be attending the Association of Idaho Counties (AIC) June conference next week. She also stated that Shawn McClary is doing a “fabulous job” with the park maintenance and is also reading the water meters. New meters are still being installed around town. Also reported by Mariah was progress in finding a city attorney. The AIC has a list of potential attorneys. The search for a building inspector is ongoing. There was mention that the $250 building permit fee may not cover expenses for the inspector to travel to Midvale several times to view projects. It was agreed that an attorney needs to be in place before any changes are made.
After the agenda items were covered and the meeting was near adjournment, the council heard from Midvale Pool representatives. They asked for permission to use the park for the July 4 celebration, which would also include three bounce houses and a beer garden. Since no application had been filed with the city for a park permit and for a beer/wine permit, nor was the item on the evening’s agenda, there was no action taken by the council. There was discussion about the possibility of calling a special session but the councilmen did not see an emergency situation. The requirement for an application has been in place for some time and it was felt that the city needed to maintain its expectation of timely applications.
The next regular meeting of the Midvale city council will be July 8.
