New Instruments Provide Great Christmas Music in Midvale

Midvale school’s music director Steve Besel was thrilled with his band at the Christmas program Wednesday evening. He introduced his band by mentioning that there were four new instruments as a result of a $3,200 grant from the State of Idaho, the Expanding Arts Access in Rural Public Schools Grant. They are two clarinets, a flute and a trumpet. There is also a $1,000 extension of that grant which will be spent in January. Most of the remainder of the band’s instruments are less than 12 years old, thanks to other grants.
When asked about his music budget, Steve commended the Midvale School board for its generosity to keep the program going. Applying for grants has also made it possible to purchase a new sound system and a portable stage. The band room also replaced the folding chairs with stools.
At the program, fourteen students performed Jingle Bells, Angels We Have Heard on High, Up On The Housetop, A Holly Jolly Christmas, Jingle-Bell Rock and We Wish You A Merry Christmas.
