New Meadows Library Awards Sled Dog Ride

As part of the Idaho Sled Dog Challenge, the New Meadows Library hosted a contest for one child with a good guess to win a ride in the ceremonial start of the race. The library had a jar full of beads with dog paw prints and the challenge to guess how many paw prints were in the jar. The best guess winner was 13 year old Carson Kirkpatrick. He guessed 704 beads and the actual total was 773. Kirkpatrick was unable to attend Sunday’s events.
The next best guess of 630 beads was made by fourth grader Emmalynne Cochran. Emma said she thought this was a really fun opportunity and she loved the ride. She was especially looking forward to having fun and seeing the dogs. She said her favorite experience was getting to pet the sled dogs.
The ceremonial start took place on Sunday, February 2 at the Activity Barn in McCall. Fourth grader Emma rode in Musher Wade Donaldson’s sled pulled by his excited team of eight dogs. Congratulations Emma!
