The community room at the New Meadows Library was full to the brim last Tuesday, March 11 as Pete Walker presented a travelogue on his visit to Indonesia. Over 17,000 islands make up Indonesia! Walker gave a video presentation showing eight of the islands and discussed the diversity of the physical beauty, religions, and culture. Walker said, “One reason I keep traveling is to meet our neighbors in the world.”

The library was extra busy again the next day, Wednesday, March 12 for Parrot Storytime. About 20 children attended and listened to If You Were a Parrot by Katherine Rawson and Sherry Rogers as well as Memoirs of a Parrot by Devin Scillian. Later, the children made a parrot craft, tracing their hands to make feathers.

Volunteer Marlene Clark read aloud and was dressed as a Nanday Conure parrot (parakeet). She provided some interesting facts as well. Did you know there are over 350 different species of parrots around the world? Librarian Audrey Crogh also noted that some parrot species can live more than 50 years. Talk about a lifetime pet!

Storytime is scheduled for the second Wednesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. April’s topic is fruit and May’s topic is dreams. The summer reading program will kick off in June.

A citrus crochet scrubby maker class still has room for more people on Tuesday, March 25 at 6:00 p.m. The cost is $6 per person and everyone should be an H-8 crochet hook. Contact the library by March 21 to sign up.

The library will host a bake sale during the whole month of April. Bakers and buyers are both being sought.

April will also bring back Saturday library hours 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. The library will also continue to be open Monday through Friday 11:00 a.m. -6:00 p.m..

Other upcoming events include Book Club on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. and the Friends of the Library meeting on April 15 at 3:00 p.m. April 21 is Library Volunteer Appreciation and a library open house. Check out the library’s Facebook page, website meadowsvalley.lili.org , or stop by in person for more information.
