New Meadows Receives Grant to Build Childcare Center

Exciting news! New Meadows is getting a much-needed childcare/preschool! The new Childcare Center will be located in the Heartland Recycle Center which is being remodeled with grant funds. The location is on the corner of Peterson Memorial Avenue and Taylor Street, right next to the future site of Mehen Memorial Skatepark which is also slated for construction this year.
The city received a $600,000 Childcare Expansion grant from the Idaho Workforce Development Council for this project. A committee met on Tuesday with architect and designer Ian Hoffman and Allison Munz from GHM Architects. The building is planned to have four classrooms for age groups 0-12 months, 1-2 yrs, 3-4 yrs and 5-year-olds and a fenced in play area. There will also be an after-school zone, a kitchen and 4 bathrooms. A Childcare Planning Committee was approved by the City Council at Monday’s meeting and the plan is to have two committee meetings per month- one will be discussing design and construction and the other will be for policy/operations planning. The committee is currently working on a timeline with plans to have the building ready for preschool to open in the building in the fall.
